Autobiography of Eva Perkins

Eva Perkins is a lifetime member of True Vine Missionary Baptist Church; she is a product of HISD schools. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Texas Southern University(TSU). While at TSU, she was co-sponsor and a soloist for the TSU Inspirational Choir.

Eva is a former nurse and a retired educator(HISD). She is the founder of Eva Perkins and The Perkins Singers comprised of Toni Cassasidra, Victor and Robin (Little Aretha), her 4 older children. The other 3 were too young to participate. Their recording, "I Shall Not Be Moved", became#1 on Radio Station KFMK.

Over a career that has spanned decades, she has been a soloist for the Houston Chapter of the GMWA, coordinated and sponsored music workshops (her class on Choir Decorum is exciting and unique), sang at churches, conventions and other locales from Louisiana to Los Angeles; also on board The Royal Caribbean Cruise Ship. Eva has worked and sang with such well known gospel greats as Keith Pringle, Jennifer Holliday, V. Michael McKay, James Cleveland, Jesse Williams, Yolanda Adams, and others.

Eva is the composer/arranger of such songs a "I Shall Not Be Moved"; "More Than A Conqueror"; "I Fly Away", "I Won't Forget", and "Not Going There". Currently, Eva performs with a group she founded- EVA PERKINS and THE VICTORY ENSEMBLE. Her motto is "Live the life you sing about in your song".

Eva has been active in her community and city through such organizations as W.I.N. (Women In NAACP), and APRI, doing volunteer work. Her support of the BMWC Scholarship Fund, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren help to light up her life.
